Place History:
Throughout the United States movie theaters were beacons of entertainment, providing families with a whole afternoon of motion picture watching, that would include two movies, news reels, and commercials. As time progressed theaters became less of a staple of American society, but always remained. The advent of television was thought to bring the great structures down, but they reinvented themselves through sound systems and the widescreen format. In later years the internet almost whipped them out as pirating became prominent and people became lazy. Instead of going bankrupt, theaters stayed put by becoming more personal (albeit more expensive) and adding a 3-D dimension to some motion pictures.

During the apocalypse, the idea of entertainment was far from the mind's of Rivertown's citizens. So theatre's adapted again, this time focusing on the documentation of the world's collapse. As people grew more and more insane, their vicarious nature craved seeing the planetary destruction that was at hand. The theater fueled their cravings. Now, theaters are few and far between, and are mainly hideouts for the nostalgic. Every once and a while theaters will advertise a movie showing, when it's safe. The most common movie to be shown is Apocalypse Now. The talented musician and singer Penelope performs nightly.
